EFFECT Photonics’ expanded premises at Brixham, UK

Since 2015 EFFECT has also had a presence based in south west Devon UK, at the University of Plymouth Brixham Laboratory. EFFECT Photonics needed a specialised telecommunications product development and manufacturing facility based in Torbay, conveniently situated to provide access to the resources utilised by the well-established Hi-Tech cluster of companies and expertise locally based there, within the bay area.

Focus:

EFFECT Photonics develops and delivers highly integrated optical telecommunications products based on InP (Indium Phosphide) which is the material of choice for creating efficient laser light sources, waveguides, modulators, and photodiodes used in optical communication systems throughout the world.
Extensive development work, European funding, and collaboration with established telecom organisations has already been invested to develop and refine the processes needed for the integration of multiple optical functions within a single chip. Enabling low cost highly functionality products to support the next-generation of emerging communications systems and networks.

Products / Services

The key enabling technology for DWDM systems is full monolithic integration of all photonic components within a single chip and being able to produce these in volume with high yield at low cost. With this capability, EFFECT Photonics is addressing the need for low cost DWDM solutions driven by the soaring demand for high bandwidth connections between datacenters and back from mobile cell towers.
EFFECT Photonics multi-lane Photonics Integrated Circuit (PIC) solutions are photonic enablers for pluggable module product solutions supporting multi-lane distributed (MLD) photonic applications, with aggregate transmission speeds of 100Gbps. Utilising the CFPx and (Q)SFP pluggable form factors, these modules support DWDM applications which require high physically rack density, and 100Gbps transmission link requirements in excess of 80km without the need for advanced coding, or fibre dispersion management, reducing implementation cost and rapid of system commissioning.

About EFFECT Photonics:

EFFECT Photonics delivers highly integrated optical communications products based on its Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical System-on-Chip (SoC) technology. As a spin out of the prestigious Technical University of Eindhoven, EFFECT Photonics takes a platform approach to integration using high-yielding building blocks within the wafer. Growing different quaternary alloys of Indium Phosphide on a single wafer means that all of the active and passive optical functions of a system can be created within a single chip, which is then combined.
