EFFECT Photonics joins the CableLabs vendor community

EFFECT Photonics today announced it is now able to join CableLabs in collaborating on optical technology projects – aimed at developing optical-related specifications, tools, test suites, software, and documentation – after signing an agreement to the terms of the CableLabs Optical Project Charter.

The primary focus of the project is on the application of optical technologies in the access network, mainly coherent such as coherent passive optical networking (CPON). By working closely with CableLabs and its network of members, EFFECT Photonics will work to create the interoperable products that MSO (Multi System Operators) clients want, as well as helping them get to market faster.

CableLabs is the worldwide, leading R&D lab for the cable industry from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central & South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and Australia. It is a crucial source for MSO specifications in areas like DOCSIS technology, Optical Coherent Transmission, Wi-Fi, etc. CableLabs has a number of different working groups and regularly hosts interoperability events, always driven by the needs in the cable industry and sponsored by the MSO companies.

In addition to its MSO members, CableLabs has a long history of vendor community collaboration, teaming up to bring new, innovative ideas to fruition.

EFFECT Photonics’ CCO Harald Graber explains: “MSO networks are constantly evolving to address the growing demand to move more data at higher speeds. We look forward to being an active contributor in helping to address this and future challenges. We believe that our unique optical System-on-Chip technology and packaging competence in both our current direct detect and next gen coherent transceivers, can contribute to achieving the CableLabs community’s goals.”

About EFFECT Photonics

EFFECT Photonics delivers highly integrated optical communications products based on its Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical System-on-Chip technology. The key enabling technology for DWDM systems is full monolithic integration of all photonic components within a single chip and being able to produce these in volume with high yield at low cost. With this capability, EFFECT Photonics is addressing the need for low cost DWDM solutions driven by the soaring demand for high bandwidth connections between datacentres and back from mobile cell towers. EFFECT Photonics is headquartered in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, with additional R&D and manufacturing in South West UK, and a facility opening soon in the US.
