About

A spin-off from Eindhoven University of Technology, grown into a production ready supplier for laser sub-assemblies for telecom and datacom networks.

Our story

From a TU Eindhoven lab to a laser supplier

EFFECT Photonics started as a spin-off from Eindhoven University of Technology, around a single thesis. You can build the entire optical sub system for a coherent transceiver on one piece of Indium Phosphide (InP).

That was the bet. Now it is the product. The pico ITLA, shipping  in Q4 2026, is the first commercial laser assembly built on a fully monolithic InP integration platform. The same platform now feeds the nano ITLA in development and the scale-across / DCI roadmap behind it.

“We are a scale up with a hands on engineering culture. The people solving the hard problems are the same people you talk to.”

Photonics moves slowly until it does not. We have spent a decade making sure that when the network industry pivots from electronics to integrated photonics, the supply, the qualification, and the cost curve are already in place.

About us

Built in Eindhoven. Deployed worldwide.

EFFECT Photonics started as a spin-off from Eindhoven University of Technology with a single ambition: put an entire optical system on one chip. Now that chip is in production, qualified for the programs that power global telecom and data center infrastructure, and backed by investors who understand what it takes to scale deep technology.

From our headquarters on High Tech Campus Eindhoven, we operate as a laser-focused, independent company. No conglomerate overhead. Just a team that has spent fifteen years solving one of the hardest problems in photonics — and is now scaling the answer across the telecom and data center markets that run the modern internet.

How we work

That’s how we solve problems

An engineering company, run by engineers. The values below are not posters in a hallway. They are how the team makes decisions.

01

Own the development process

In close cooperation with our wafer partner EFFECT Photonics has developed its own Process Development Kit (PDK), the bases of in-house developed InP PICs.

02

Qualified beats announced

We do not ship roadmap slides. A product is real when it has passed Telcordia, fits the MSA and runs on a production line.

03

The engineer answers the call

The people solving the hard problems are the same people customers and partners talk to. There is no layer in between.

Team members

The team that turns it into reality

A dedicated team of engineers, scientists, and industry experts united by a shared mission to push the boundaries of integrated photonics.

Leveraging Electronic Ecosystems in Photonics

(First published on the 2nd November 2022 updated 4th September 2024) Thanks to wafer-scale technology, electronics have driven down the cost per transistor for many decades. This allowed the world to enjoy chips that every generation became smaller and provided exponentially more computing power for the same amount of money. This scale-up process is how
