Creating Scalable and Flexible Future-Proof Networks with Programmable Optical System-on-Chip
On Monday, June 7th, Joost Verberk, Director of Product Management, presented in the Technology Showcase at OFC 2021.
During his presentation, Joost looks at how digital technologies are impacting our daily lives, and what the implications are for network operators. While network traffic is growing exponentially, investments in infrastructure and operational costs cannot.
A paradigm shift is necessary to address this challenge and deliver an agile, scalable, and flexible solution. As part of this, Joost explores several enabling and emerging technologies. These include open standards and interfaces; network function virtualization; software-defined networking; and automated management and orchestration. In closing, Joost explains what a programmable optical system-on-chip is and what it can do to help realise future-proof networks of the future.
