What started out as an initiative to develop a standardized, compact and efficient coherent pluggable module for data center interconnects has spawned an ever-expanding ecosystem of solutions that are redefining carrier network architectures. The 7nm DSPs and optics developed to support 400ZR pluggable modules are being configured in ZR+ modules to support significantly longer distances and optimized for network applications from the edge to metro and beyond. The next generation of 3nm and 5nm DSPs and optics will enable a new generation of pluggable modules that will support enhanced 400G performance and reach 800G performance, including 800ZR, and cost-effective modules designed for the edge of the network.
This session will investigate the opportunities and challenges presented by this developing ecosystem of pluggable coherent modules and solutions.
