About the position

EFFECT Photonics is looking for an experienced – Production Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced production engineering manager with extensive experience of working with Contract Manufacturers in Asia. Must have >10yrs experience of working with a Tier 1 Contract manufacturer of Optical Networking components and have ability to travel 50% of time to Asia (Thailand / Malaysia). Master’s degree or PHD preferred. Experience of managing remote teams on different time zones a bonus.


Role responsibilities:

  • Responsible for growing the Production Engineering capability for the company from both a strategic and tactical perspective
  • Lead Continuous Improvement across the capability including interfaces to other engineering teams and other functions within the business
  • Drive and Manage Production Engineering inputs to programmes
  • Share experience and input to Business Development campaigns and proposals
  • Design and manage associated tasks for your direct reports and wider team
  • Develop and maintain Statement of Work (SOW) to satisfy current and emerging programme requirements
  • Respond to changes to SOW, assesses the impact and negotiate proposed changes to determine modifications to deliverables, resources, costs, and schedules
  • Identify metrics and report to leadership to provide a status of functional performance
  • Compare actual results to baseline plan to assess project performance, efficiencies, productivity, and lessons learned
  • Plan, identify, and coordinate resources required to support the programme through the management of functional resource requirements and reporting into weekly reviews
  • Define plans for risk, issue and opportunity mitigation ensuring items created through the execution of engineering activities are managed and reported appropriately
  • Provide technical coordination for the development and execution of project

About You

We want you to bring your contract production engineering management expertise, experience, and passion to help us build a world class outsourced manufacturing (CM) and production engineering team, helping us to create a world class company with a world class reputation.

You will be the First Line Leader on a day-to-day basis for a team of Production Engineers supporting multiple programmes.

This position will have day to day direction over the Material Review Board (MRB) and Manufacturing Engineering (ME) team members across the PIC, TOSA, SFP and advanced technologies. They will directly interface with the Contract Manufacturing on-site leadership to ensure the team is operating efficiently and providing the required support to the programs.

Required / Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Master’s Degree (PHD preferred) in Physics, Optics, or related field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science.) Advanced degree highly desirable
  • >10 years of experience in optics-related field
  • A solid understanding of the Material Review Board, Manufacturing Planning and Manufacturing Engineering processes
  • Experience in Technical Planning; Excellent Systems Engineering process knowledge and skills; Good IT skills; Excellent Customer Facing, Team Building and Leadership Skills
  • Able to influence staff not directly within their span of control and achieve desired results, able to think out of the box in challenging circumstances
